Who are you, who, who? I’m Fred
What is your industry and profession? A retired CPA who owned/operated a consulting practice in telecommunications for 30 years.
Where do you use SketchUp? At home, personally. I originally used SketchUp free version since at least v6. Around v8 I decided to go to the Pro version in order to expand my skills with the various added features.
Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it? I use SketchUP mainly to design fine woodworking projects. I always dabbled with woodworking during my business career, and SketchUp gave me a way to put ideas into practice. After retirement in 2003, I took superb Fine Woodworking classes at the local community college and learned how much I didn’t know about woodworking. I love the fact that one is able to design the detail into a project to include the making of intricate mortise/tenon and other types of joinery down to the smallest fractions, usually at least 1/32". I must admit, there are so many possibilities with SketchUp that I doubt I will ever reach the level of many professionals who use it in very complex design work. But, I do enjoy looking into the work of others and am constantly amazed at how powerful this program is…
How proficient are you in SketchUp? Advanced intermediate. My woodworking skills exceed my ability to detail everything I would like to do in SketchUp - maybe someday…
What is your current set up? SketchUp 2016 Pro on a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit PC

Hello all.

I joined yesterday and have already had a problem solved by the brilliant folk here.

Anyway, I’m Phil and I’ve been a Sketchup user for well over 10 years. I think V3.0 was my first. Along with doing a lot of technical writing I work in product design consultancy in the pro and hi-fi audio sectors where Sketchup is perfect for communicating design ideas and concepts. It’s absolutely true to say I would not be doing the work I am now without Sketchup. So, thank you Sketchup folk.

Phil

PS. You can see some of my Sketchup work here on a part time project of mine celebrating a bunch of classic British hi-fi products - www.audio-icons.com

What is your industry and profession?
Am pilot (aircraft), but a passionate eternal for 3d. Today I have over 40 years of age, but since my childhood and contact with the first computers in the early '80s for me it was a fascinating discovery not only the beginning of the digital age as creating digital art.

Where do you use SketchUp? Personally/professionally?
At first I was already Blender user, but when the SketchUp came to me (version 5.0.295) I used only for personal creations. But then people have come to know my work and ask me things in 3D. And here it is where it all began. Today do various developments for 3D flight simulators as Flight Simulator, P3D, Flight Gear for the FSB companies - Fly Simultor Brazil and i9 Simulations. And also develop content ETS² and ATS. But there are also companies in other industries that seek to request content.

Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it? (Besides using it to impress the babes…)
To answer why SketchUp is now my favorite I’ll make a brief comparison between Blender and Sketchup. “Even knowing full well that both are different programs with different capabilities.” As much as I know how to use Blender correctly, if I create a certain item (let’s call him “X”) … for example I could take three hours to its final conclusion. At the time I can do “X” in SketchUp in just 45 minutes (or less). Namely, its practicality and agility are amazing.

How proficient are you in SketchUp? Beginner, intermediate, advanced?
I am user since version 5 (beta), but I have a good knowledge of the uses and resources, but we are always learning new techniques and ways.

Have you gone to a SketchUp 3DBasecamp?
Unfortunately I did not have the available time to go to a 3Dbasecamp, but when it occurs in my country will certainly be a lot easier (or less difficult).

What is your current set up? Computer type, SketchUp version…etc.290 (Your lake house and Ferrari don’t count)
ATI Radeon XFX with 1GB of RAM and DDR5 // PC with Intel // Three monitors for a better job (or fun, depends on the moment).

Do you have a 3DW page with your models, Extensions, or a website you would like to link to or show off to us?
I have a profile on 3DW, but honestly it’s been awhile that I do updates it.

Anything else you would like to tell us? (e.g., you once saw a UFO & tried to model it in SketchUp to get a prototype 3D printed…)
I entered the community (forum), there is very little time, but want to become more active and participate in helping new users. Because when I started, many people helped me. And knowledge should be sharing.

What is your favorite Emoji?
My is the most common of all

Do you enjoy long walks on the beach…?
I’d rather fly than go to the beach

My name is Jeffrey. My wife and I are kitchen and bath designers. I consider myself an intermediate user and I do all modeling and construction documents using SketchUp Pro (2016 now). I won’t use any program that doesn’t run natively on a Mac and using SketchUp feels more like drawing by hand and less like filling in spreadsheets.

I studied music in my college days but didn’t go for the degree. Favorites include Palestrina, Vivaldi, Arvo Part, Penderecki, Psychedelic Furs, Madeon, Calvin Harris. I’m currently overwhelmed with sadness over the death of Bowie.

After meeting Aaron, Mark, Josh and Mike at KBIS (SketchUp Staff) I decided to become part of the community. I’ve always been so impressed by the posts of talented people in these forums and elsewhere.

I don’t walk on beaches and if there was “black star” emoji, that’s what I would use today.

Sent you a message to your Facebook page . . I also am in the Phoenix AZ Area . .

Hi SketchUp users! My name is Pat and I’m just shy of my 60th birthday. I live in Sacramento, CA and I’ve used Macs almost from the time they first came out. I’ve use computers to run my own consulting business and to play around with other graphics programs. I’m currently learning to be a better woodworker and I’m converting my 2 car garage into some sort of wood shop. I am using SketchUp to lay out the tools, lighting and electrical. I’ve been playing around with SU Make for about 6 months. I have an early 2008 24" iMac running OS X 10.9.5 and use SketchUp Make 2016. While I like trying to figure out things on my own, the older I get the more I realize that it is OK to ask for help and to learn from others. I’ve realized that the wheel was invented a long, long time ago and other people know of a great many improvements that have been made since it’s inception. So, I welcome any and all help or insight and I will try and provide the same as I grow and expand my abilities. I am amazed at all the interesting ways this program is being used. And I love all of the great tutorial helps provided. I still have one small question . . . . .

Hi I’m Pernille - Been using Sketchup on and off for years, and love it. Use it either when I’m moving (do decide how and what furniture goes where) or when i’m redecorating (same) or - most fun - when i have a serious renovation project. Right now (Feb 2016) im trying to decide how to rebuild the last third of my fabulous summerhouse on the beach (in Denmark, 1,5 hour from Copenhagen).
Professionally i don’t work with design - but if I started my life over I would  So why not start now
Oh and I’m colourblind (very few women are…) - so sometimes i have problems seeing the the red/green inference lines or the blue/purple ones (didn’t even know there was a purple one, until i listened to at tutorial!)… does make things a bit tricky.
I love sharing ideas!
