I thought that GPU improves zooming or orbiting. Because moving through the model is slow.

I am no expert on this topic but yes, you are right, GPU handles that sort of ‘graphical stuff’ that you can think of. However it doesn’t necessarily mean that will improve performance for navigating through the model, because CPU still involves the process tightly.

I expect that only someone from the core SketchUp development team could give you a solid answer. The rest of us can only speculate. And, as it involves proprietary technology, it isn’t likely that a SU team developer will give you a lot of technical details. I’m neither a SketchUp team member nor a game programmer, just someone with a fair amount of computer experience. So, to speculate away… I think it involves the fact that SketchUp provides an editable model based on a geometry database …

And sometimes ‘downgrading’ your GPU driver might solve problems, try that and see if it helps:

Hi all, I am happy to report all my problems are now gone. As per @sketch3d_de’s suggestion, I ‘downgraded’ to the latest graphics drivers that were found on the laptop’s support page and the performance is now completely smooth. Thank you all for your answers and patience.

Also note that SketchUp only uses one processor of the CPU as stated here: SketchUp Hardware and Software Requirements.
