Pro 2017 crashes when I try to print

SU v8 uses an older OpenGL 3D display output stack which is less demanding than the OGL version of 2017+, sticking with it because of flaky graphics card drivers would stop further development of an enhanced and faster 3D display output (as e.g. an improved shadow with v2017) and is therefore surely no real choice. Having back the option to disable OGL in hardware as version 2016 (and older) could be an option, dunno how difficult to implement.

Bt why not simply drop ypur old/lame FirePro V4900 (2012) and upgrade your system to e.g. a recent GeForce GTX 1060 roughly 7 times faster starting from approx. 200 bucks?

Check space in case and req. wattage of PSU before buying.

Posh,

Just saw this (gmail not usual email). If I were to replace the card, would you stick with AMD or switch to nVidia? My Lenovo Yoga has an simple nVidia card/chipset and seems to handle sketchup reasonably well (for a laptop). The GeForce series is also, I think, not AutoCAD certified. I had one once and it was fine, but a little nervous about getting a new card that could have problems with both.

I also received an email earlier from AMD suggesting that my computer is probably printing through the intel video drivers (??), which recent windows updates damaged, and that I have to disable or remove those to force my computer to use the AMD drivers. Since I only crash when printing, I am willing to try what they suggest, when I have time. In the meantime, I will continue to save back to SU8 or use may laptop for printing.

Thanks for your insights,

explicitly not the AMD (w/ their known instable OGL support) but the nVidia GeForce GT(X) only.

AC is (in the professional area) mainly used for 2D drafting and drawing and thus doesn’t need a certified graphics card, works regularly problem free even with integrated low-end graphics sub-systems as e.g. the intel HD.

using the dedicated much faster graphics card w/ - typically - a better OpenGL support is always recommended, check the AMD control panel for an appropriate configuration probably somewhere in the 3D settings.

Thanks very much.
